Hitting the Wall??

Saturday was busy, but not nearly as busy as we've been for the last 2 months.  I just couldn't get it together long enough for any sustained effort.  Plus, a temperature of 80+ degrees just took its toll on me. By lunch, I could barely keep focused, and that was after only 2 hours of work!  We managed to fertilize our shrubs and trees with Espoma, an organic fertilizer. The new magnolia was looking a wee bit sketchy, so I soaked it with low water for about 45 minutes.  I also worked on getting the weeds out of the front bed, but they were out of mulch at the cheap city mulch place.  So we won't be able to finish those beds until after Weds.

I also transplanted some house plants from smaller to large pots, planted some peppers, and finished up planting some lamb's ear in our green perennial garden.  I spread more pine needles and laid out more soaker hose for the garden.  (only 15 minutes of soaker hose does the job!  Coming from our rain barrel, this is good news!)

Dave planted some mondo grass along the side of the house which has normally just had weeds.  That is going to look so nice!!!  Even better news, once it grows in, it never needs to be mowed!  Woohoo!

The thing that is so frustrating is that we are still not finished with the projects we started months ago.  We still have a big pile of dirt in the driveway and I can't take it any more!!  I was having thoughts of this nature yesterday while Dave was on a Home Depot run.  I was sweeping up the driveway and developing more and more of a black cloud over my head when I looked in the yard and saw Patches standing up and staring at me in his "hang dog" look.  It amazes me that he could tell I was very upset and it was upsetting him.  I went to the yard and had to actually coax him over so that I could comfort him and tell him that he wasn't the reason I was so upset.  Honestly, folks.  I was not talking out loud.  Yet, this dog could sense my tension and frustration.  Kind of scary to be honest.

First Harvest

We had our first harvest from the garden last night.   It was a salad made from baby greens (mesclun) and two "raindbow" radishes each (one red and one white).  The salad, picked 15 minutes before we ate it, was delicious.  Truly that was some dang good stuff.  So far, the garden is doing so much better than last year!  It's absolutely bizarre that I'm actually growing things this year.  Raising the garden and adding some good dirt, as well as some experience on my part is making a big difference!!

After dinner, we saw Big  Bad Voodoo Daddy with the Charlotte Symphony.  Thank goodness it was lively music or I would have fallen asleep.  Bun didn't have too much of a reaction at the concert, but afterwards, he was the most active I've ever felt.  It must have been very stimulating for him!

OK. Off to do some school work and finish up yestday's chores.  Being pg in hot weather may actually be a tough experience.
