Lying Little Baby
I took Conor into daycare today after his 6 month check up. All is well in the weight/length/head arena, but I caught my son in his first lie today.
He has proclaimed loudly and with mighty lungs that he hates tummy time. It’s the Worst. Thing. Ever. How dare we put him on his tummy when he’d rather be on his back or in our arms. So I arrived at daycare and knew he wanted to nap. I put him on his back in his crib (Back To Sleep!) and he started wailing. “Oh, honey,” I said. “Hold on a moment and I’ll put you in the swing to sleep.”
Ms. D, the daycare provider, asked me how he sleeps for me at home. “Oh,” I brag, “I can get him to sleep in the crib, but sometimes he likes the swing. He never sleeps on his stomach.” I don’t know why I said that, but I did. Actually, I do know why I said it. I have a friend whose daughter rolls over to her tummy as soon as she gets in her crib to sleep. Once they can roll the doctors say it’s ok to let them sleep that way.
So Ms. D was working with another baby and then commented “Well, that’s just the opposite of how he is here.” I pause. “He loves to sleep on his tummy here. Every time I put him down on his tummy, he plays for a few minutes and then he goes to sleep.”
I stared at her slack jawed.
That lying little baby!!! He totally won’t do that at home!!! He screams at tummy time. We have to nurse him and rock and rock and rock him to get him to go to sleep here. And he just drifts off on his own at daycare!
I had to find out if he did more at daycare that I didn’t know about. “Does he roll over here? Does he sit up?!” She responded, “No.”
“HA!” I said. “He started rolling over on his own in
I had noticed on the daily sheets that he’s been taking really long naps at daycare. Now we know why. We’re going to try a few tummy time naps this weekend and see what happens. And no, we’re not evil on a stick to let our child sleep on his belly. At this age, it is OK. Not preferred, but OK. (So we hear)
Baby Kisses
I’m getting my first kisses from the schnuffie. At first, I thought he was trying to get milk out of my chin or cheek. But now I know, he’s trying to kiss me like I kiss him.
I can’t stand it, it’s so wonderful. He presses his open mouth on my cheek or chin or whatever is closest and then smiles like the sun. Today, he went for my mouth which was odd, being French kissed by one’s own son. But he was happy and I was covered in slobber, so I didn’t really care. Baby kisses totally are the best.
