Meme Me

This is my first meme experience.  Y’all out there with web pages can, if you choose, answer these questions on your own sites.  We’ll see how long it takes to get around the blogosphere!  (Thanks to Running, Cooking, Writing for starting this one!)

What is the total amount of music files on your computer?

223.  I go in spurts in downloading, and except for my birthday party when we downloaded disco and 70s rock, I haven’t downloaded in a while.

The last CD you bought?

Dave bought me Loretta Lynn’s Van Lear Rose for my birthday.

What is the song you listened to last before reading this message?

As I first read this blog at night, I was listening to classical music on WDAV in Davidson, NC.  So, I’m not even able to name that tune except it was a golden oldie.  A really old song.

What are 5 songs that you listen to often or mean a lot to you?

I have to first note that since moving to Charlotte I listen to much less popular music than I ever have in my life.  In NY and LA, I was the cool music chick.  I listened to alternative rock and to alternative music (a la KCRW).  The music in Charlotte NC, however, SUCKS.  It’s either FM talk (where callers call in to discuss embarrassing moments or their sex life), typical bad pop (KISS FM), mainstream country or “mainstream” alt rock.  And worst of all, these radio stations are all syndicated.  There’s diddly squat that is independent in this radio market (there is one public radio music station, but reception is lousy in Charlotte). I’m a perfect candidate for satellite radio.

So my (current) favorite songs that I listen to often and which mean a lot to me:

William Tell Overture (our doorbell)

The Moonlight Sonata (our phone)

The B-52’s Planet Claire (not my favorite one of theirs, which would be Whammy, but I hear this one a lot)

Loretta Lynn’s The Van Lear Rose which usually makes me tear up

That’s all I’ve got.  I’m sitting here staring at my keyboard and I need to do some other work.

Drop off at daycare was better today.  I popped out a little snack boob and handed him off to Ms D. before he got grumpy.  It also gave me time to help W. practice waving and to see N. pull himself up to standing for the first time.  I adore all those little rugrats in Conor’s daycare.  I never was that into babies before, but now they fascinate me and they are precious from their chubby little cheeks to their stinky little diapers.  Who knew other folks’ kids would be so cute?

And yes, feel free to give advice.  And I’ll feel free to ignore it.   It’s a good skill to have, I’m discovering!!  :-)
