Single Mom

I don’t know how single moms do it.  Really.  I salute all the single moms out there who might stumble upon my blog.

Tuesday night, sleeping went well once he finally got to sleep.  We made it through the whole night and he woke up at 6 for his morning nummies.  I figured that at that time, I’d be able to get in to work relatively early and have a good start to the day.

At 9 am, when I finally stumbled into the office, I wondered where the hell my three hours had gone.  I didn’t even take a shower and it took me three hours to get in to work.

Last night was more of the same.  The little stinker would not go to sleep until around 9, I took him to bed with me and he nursed while I sang to him.  Six rounds of “Hush little baby…” and he was completely out.  It took him to the crib where he slept until 5:15 this morning.  We both got up around 7 and then, it was one hour of prepping Conor for school (fixing bottles, lunch, two diaper changes, playing, etc) and cleaning the kitchen from last night.  I left the house at 8:15 without having even a cup of coffee during that time.

If I wasn’t planning on staying home and grading tests today, it would have meant two days in a row that I went to work without a shower.

And I think I’d like to say to all single moms out there that if your physique is anywhere near what you want it to believe, I’m not sure I’d believe you.  Those single moms who are too skinny are that way because they don’t have time to eat.  Those single moms who weigh more than they’d like are that way because they don’t have time to eat and then are so hungry they eat what they can.  (Like me and those two donuts I had AFTER breakfast this morning)

So, on the Thursday after mother’s day, I salute you, Single Moms.  You do a lot more than I can easily do, and you deserve some public recognition for your hard work.  (((clapclapclapclapclap)))

And with that, I’m going to go pounce on my husband who just drove up the driveway.
