Ummmmm......

Remember how yesterday I said I was working on a paper and nothing, and I meant nothing, was going to stop my work on this paper?

Well, Thursday, I did work on it.  And I made some progress and my co-author had some very good feedback on it (she's actually quite famous in our area of research; I tell people I've worked with her and all of a sudden my credibility goes up really high.  Since I just stopped reading In Touch tabloid, I mean, Magazine, it's like if you were Lisa Kudrow and everyone found out that Julia Roberts really, really wanted to make a movie with you, people would pay you a wee bit more attention)

So anyhoo. Working.  Me.  Hard.  Fixed and Ready to Use. My. Brain.

Conor woke up this morning with a goopy, crusted over eye, and by 1:00 pm, a 102 degree fever.  Guess who DIDN'T work today?  Hmmmm?  Who didn't get diddly squat done with her brain??  Let's just say, it wasn't Julia Roberts.  She was kicking ass on her end of the project.  I was once again marveling at how much I didn't know about being a mother.  How much I didn't expect the unexpected.  From day one, things have been out of my control.

Big things are going on here.

I have to journal/blog soon about the differences in decision styles between Dave and me.  We're starting to talk about some big issues in our family plan:  the next young 'un, remodeling the house, my actually getting tenure.

Also, Simba Louise, on her own accord last night as opposed to my dragging her in, came in to snuggle with me for 30 minutes before bed.  It was a big deal.  Also, Simba Louise snores.  Our tiny 6 lb cat snores loudly.  Just a thought.

Finally, I'm re-reading Harry Potter and the Order Of the Phoenix, and last night I re-read the part where Harry found out about Snape being viciously bullied by Harry's father.  There are a lot of plot flaws in the Harry Potter books.  They are not as intricately and flawlessly developed as the Lord of the Rings books.  But Rowling's ability to touch the real humanity of her characters is awesome, at least to me.  I, pathetically, think about the characters in the Harry Potter books even when I'm not reading them.  When I read this book for the first time, this section of the book changed my feelings about Snape so that they more closely aligned with Spike on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  After rereading the whole series, I have to be honest with you:  Not so much.  I want to see how Snape (and Neville) develop in the next book.  I hope that Rowlings is true to those characters and doesn't leave them dangling.  They are by far the most interesting people in the books right now.

OK.  Off to bed.  I'm pooped and I want to read some more.
