Hello Darkness, My Old Friend

Ahhhhh, yes.  Insomnia.  Why does it rear it’s ugly head when Conor is (mostly) sleeping through the night, hmmmmm?  Why doesn’t it wait until he’s not sleeping either and I can stay awake and not be so cranky that I’m not sleeping.   

I have several types of insomnia.   The one last night was when I wake in the middle of the night fully expecting for it to be near dawn and it’s at some ungodly hour like 2:30 am.  My body is telling my mind that it’s ready to go and my mind is calling my body all kinds of names and yelling at it to go back to sleep and then they end up getting in a fight which wakes all the systems up and I’m just lying there trying to figure out how to quiet my fool self down and get back to sleep.

It doesn’t help when the ambulance comes by at 3:15 kindly not blaring its sirens but certainly flashing its lights and I hop up to see what is going on. 

The irony of all this?  Conor woke up about 4:00 am and I hopped out of bed to get him because I was still completely awake.  I went to nurse him in the rocker and he said “outside” which can mean either 1)  I want to go outside and play or 2) I want to go to the big bed.  (He has a limited vocabulary and I’m not even sure we’ve told him that we call it the big bed)  So based on the time of day, I decided to take him “outside” of his room and into our bed.  And we all fell to sleep within 5 minutes.  Those breastfeeding hormones still work, apparently. 

I’m a little ahead of my schedule of things to do right now.  So I’m actually going to keep working and perhaps stay ahead, for the day at least.
