doublethink means the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them. ... To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then, when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just so long as it is needed, to deny the existence of objective reality and all the while to take account of the reality which one denies -- all this is indispensably necessary. Even in using the word doublethink it is necessary to exercise doublethink. For by using the word one admits that one is tampering with reality; by a fresh act of doublethink one erases this knowledge; and so on indefinitely, with the lie always one leap ahead of the truth. -- George Orwell, 1984

Bush head cheerleader CNN is gushing orgasmically about a centrifuge found in a backyard in Baghdad, or some such nonsense. I'm not even bothering to check this out or find a single link -- at least not until the truth comes out.

I can see the headline now:

BAGHDAD BIOLOGY TEACHER WHISKED TO GITMO

AFTER STEALING DANGEROUS BOMB-MAKING DEVICE

Protests of "It's a Pyrex® beaker, and I used it to

bring home leftover chicken machboos!" go unheard

Bonus Lefty Laugh stolen from Flash Harry over at Democratic Underground:

A Russian, a Jamaican, a Conservative and a Liberal are all stranded at sea in a lifeboat. After a few days, the Russian pulls out a bottle of vodka he's been saving, takes a swig and throws it overboard.

"What the hell did you do that for?" the others cry in disbelief.

The Russian replies, "we haff plenty off dat where I come from!"

Not to be outdone, the Jamaican produces a giant spliff, takes a puff and throws it overboard.

"Where I come from, mon, we have plenty of dat!"

Trumping them both, the Liberal throws the Conservative overboard.

Okay, I retract that: I have no idea if the Webmaster working on getting George W. Bush legally elected this time is either big or fat. But whoever it is, s/he fits my definition of an idiot, to a T.

Or, rather to an HTTP: Seems the mastermind(s) behind Dubbie's campaign site posted the prototype for the site, live, giving a few lucky folks a sneak preview at some of the crap BushCo intends to force down your gullet in '04.

Slate's Timothy Noah was one of the lucky few; his writeup (which includes screenshots on the site before Bush's I.T. idjits locked it down) notes some of the more revealing tidbits:

[G]ems include a hot link, "See more Hispanic photos," underneath the caption to a photograph of Laura Bush reading to Hispanic children. (As her father-in-law would say, "Message: I care.") Similarly, the bio page for Lynne Cheney has a hot link, "The latest Lynne Cheney photos" (don't settle for anything taken last month!). ...

An issue page devoted to the environment is hilariously skimpy...

At the George W. Bush Online Store... the Dubya Bib, with a "W '04" logo made to resemble an interstate marker and the inscrutable slogan, "Drive."

And don't miss "Wanted: Political Perspective," an editorial by Matthew Dowd, Bush's pollster at the Republican National Committee. Much of this is an attempt to argue that the economy won't be an issue in 2004:

[In 2002,] folks were concerned and nervous about the economy (they still are), but this concern had not risen to the level of anger, and it is anger that fuels discontent at the ballot box.

Where lies the Anger Threshold? Maybe the Bush '04 Web site can provide a calculator in time for the formal release date.
