Okay, so it sounds a bit cocky. I don't disagree one bit. But here's the thing. It took me nearly fifty years to acknowledge that I was talented at BOTH writing and art, and according to Julia Cameron, author of The Artist's Way, a successful artist needs AUDACITY to get beyond the wannabe stage, so I decided to just own up to it. Doesn't mean I'm taking advantage of the talent I've been given, or used it wisely, but it does mean I can't go about hiding from it and pretending that I'd be just as happy doing some noncreative jobs as I am doing the ones that use these gifts.
There's a catch sometimes, when I want to describe myself without benefit of a visual aid such as one of my paintings or a story or poem I've written - I can't decide among the two choices easily. Both skills carry equal weight with me. I thought by now that there would be a new category to identify those of us who have this duality - since the web came along it seems that the two skills are both needed and interconnected, but one look at most websites done by a technogeek will tell you they have neither design skills nor writing/editing skills.
So for lack of a better way to get at the subject, I decided a really bold in-your-face attitude would work - since I'm on the downside of fifty I'll need to make up for the time it took me to figure all this out. Feel better now? Your comments as always are appreciated. Susan
