Today started on an interesting note. At around 7:45 this morning, WCPN, the public radio station in Cleveland, called for a live interview. The station is going to do that periodically during the 20 days of the trip.
I knew I was going to be interviewed over the air so I prepared for all the usual questions. Unfortunately, the interview lasted only about 5 minutes and I didn't get to say many of the things I thought were important.
I believe the next Ohio Odyssey interview is Wednesday when we'll be in Cambridge. Tune in at around 7:50.
Today was another good day for riding - we have been extremely lucky. A headwind and rain early in the morning turned around into a tailwind when we switched directions slightly to the southwest. It was smooth sailing - except for those times when one of us would have to turn around and ride back to get the van. That's the flip side of a tailwind for us these days.
Nevertheless, our spirits are good and our energy high.
I've always been a person who believes there is a story behind every individual. Maybe that's why I'm so fascinated by all the people we are meeting. They all have fascinating stories to tell.
I had a sudden urge to talk to one guy this afternoon, but it probably was a good thing I didn't. There was a guy mowing the grass at the state park near Fort Defiance. I'm getting a little tired of talking to average, normal people and I thought this guy's orange-striped pants set him apart from the others we've been interviewing.
Turned out there was a whole group of guys in orange-striped pants working in the area, along with several sheriff's deputies.
Tomorrow we head straight south toVersailles. The forecast is for mid-70s and a strong wind behind us. Come along for the ride.
