Just got my marriage proposal from a Canadian (and a sexy one at that)! If it weren't for these stupid deadlines at work!

Canada. Who knew.

Hmmm, just ran across an article in the Chronicle of Higher Education,  "Negotiating Salary in the Nonacademic World," where I'm quoted giving some advice of possibly dubious value. (It was just, you know, what I did). I'd forgotten about that.  

Once again, blame it on Scholars Who Blog. I've been doing this for a little more than a week now and it's disturbingly addictive. I'm resisting (not always successfully) the temptation to post every addled thought that assaults my brain.

I haven't figured out yet how strongly I should define this blog around a particular topic. Some of the best blogs out there seem very focused; I don't think I've found that yet and I'm wondering if I should. (Any suggestions! Hey, that's what comments are for...I think...)

I'm surprised by how quickly I've gotten to know some of the people in the blogosphere -- though I don't really have a blog-to-blog-to-blog conversation going here yet. I'm surprised how surprised I am by all this. Blogging often reminds me of the better parts of the early days of the internet -- when people would  just randomly finger you while you were logged on to a university's workstation, and, wonder of wonders, they would have something interesting to say.

I've written for some print publications before. It's hard to believe that after all this time I'm just now starting to write on the net. Learning that, yes, hyperlinks really do add a new dimension to writing -- that should have been obvious but after reading so many fluff-theory books about how hypertext would revolutionize writing, I suppose I internalized the view that it couldn't be in the least bit true.
