Via Maximum Verbosity:

It looks like Paramount is finally releasing the original Star Trek in season boxed sets. I'd been waiting and waiting for this, and I can't for the life of me understand why they didn't do it sooner.

Wow. Could Farscape be next? I need boxed sets, please.

From Ken Macleod's Cosmonaut Keep:

"That's how the ETs feel about it too. And as far as they're concerned, we are great lumbering spambots, corrupted servers, liable at any moment or any megayear to start turning out millions of pointless, slightly varied replicas of ourselves. Most of what we're likely to want to do if we expanded seriously into space is spam. Space industries -- spam. Moravec uploads -- spam on a plate. Von Neumann machines -- spam and chips. Space settlements -- spam, spam, spam, eggs, and spam."

Soliciting opinions. Should I change the template? I've been using it a while and it's getting rather cluttered.

Not a lot of pre-made templates available for Radio, though, and I'm a less-than-fantastic visual designer.

I've always felt discriminated against by Queer Eye. Ok, I've been told at least that I have a decent sense of fashion, but I can't decorate my apartment to save my life. I need serious help, but a gay man just can't get a break...

Well, it seems, they are finally helping out their gay brethren.

I wonder if this is in response to George W's attempt to present himself as "Reagan's son." Ron had seemed upset by that.

I was wondering what happened to Laurie Anderson. She's now... Laurie Anderson In Space!!!

From Boing Boing

Laurie Anderson, NASA artist-in-residence

Newsweek's Brian Braiker recently did a Q&A session with legendary geek art goddess Laurie Anderson, who is currently -- of all things -- NASA's first-ever artist-in-residence. The woman many remember best for "O Superman" is as superfly as ever, and happily cooking with multiple pots: composing garden music for Japan's world expo, planning a fall tour and going on ten-day long walks. So cool. Link

From Salon War Room:

Even though there are four more months until the election, which means a mountain of campaign clips have yet to be written, we'd be shocked if we come across a sillier paragraph in the entire election season than the one that appeared in an AP article over weekend.

Not surprisingly the offending passage came from a story with an absurd premise; that Sen. John Kerry and his running mate Sen. John Edwards are unusually affectionate on the campaign trail. It's a creepy GOP talking point first floated by Matt Drudge and then hammered with typical subtlety by the Washington Times' right-wing editor-in-chief, Wesley Pruden. For some reason, the AP took the bait and decided the angle was newsworthy. Here's what they came up with. Read the following graph, which breaks down an ordinary Kerry/Edwards campaign stump appearance frame-by-frame as if it were the Zapruder film, while keeping in mind it's a news story about a presidential campaign:

I wonder: what's going on that made me first think about this before I saw any of the news coverage? The utter predictability of the idiocy of political coverage is, of course, the most obvious answer.
