I actually spent the night at home last night!
My sister, Candy, came into town yesterday and will be staying with my Dad through the weekend. Last night was the first night in 15 that I've been able to sleep in my own bed. This morning when my alarm went off, I sat up in bed and screamed, "What?!" thinking that it was my Dad calling to me from his room.
I am having a totally me day today and am very much looking forward to it. First I am going to the hair salon and then to meet Liz for some shopping before we go to a Beck concert in Irvine tonight. Sounds like a much better way to spend my day than my days of late.
I am sitting in my office right now, with the backdoor opened onto our little yard. I still can't believe we even have a yard. After our apt. in NY with only about 4 windows, two of them looking at another building, having a yard is...indescribable.
There is something just so different about California. It is truly unlike anywhere I've ever lived. The air is different (and I'm not talking about the smog) and the light is different. We have this amazing tree in our backyard. It's actually the kind of tree that grows in Hawaii and produces the flowers that are used for lei's. When I swivel around in my office chair and look out the door, through the branches of this tree, through our neighbor's yard with it's spiny cactus plants and farther past that, towards downtown LA, I really feel like I'm on another continent. On balmy days like this, I really love LA.
