Llama moving day (last Friday)

A picture named llamadiptych.jpg

Left, we release the bewildered critters into the most green stuff they've ever seen in their heretofore sand-and-sagebrushy lives. In the photo on the right, my former neighbor Doug Kennedy stands left. His wife Melissa Harris took the photos that day. I'm the gray-haired lady in blue watching my camelid friends learn about real grass.

[ADDENDUM, December 2004: This blog entry was about the llamas. I noted the names of the persons who donated the photos. I didn't understand at the time the importance of noting in my private/public blog space, a work-in-progress and not a local news source, which is read, occasionally, by perhaps three people in the entire county, that Mrs. Sara Gooch and her husband, the contractor Ben Gooch, were the heroic couple on this day, volunteering their truck and horse trailer, their time and toil and gasoline. I thanked them in 7 emails, all together, and thanked Sara on this day. I now thank them in this space, as well. This was a group endeavor, involving the loving cooperation of five close friends of mine, on the final day of a grueling move, when I was extremely exhausted and barely there. I could not have done it without them, obviously. I threw my gratitude {"We did it!"} party the following day. I should note that my primary venue for expressing my gratitude is, was, and always will be personal prayer to the Creative Force of the Universe.]

A picture named bridge1.jpg

This bridge is rotting in the middle; the beams are reinforced there with iron and bolts. The cross-pieces are spaced so far apart that my brother, and some friends, fear to cross it.

The large lower pond. Around and above it I've spotted kingfishers, nighthawks, swallows, and at least one blue heron so far.

On the east side, a little courtyard with pear tree.

Around the corner, the attached greenhouse-like structure.

Finally, the west side. The owner built the place in sections over a couple of decades, from scrounged lumber.

The llamas' new digs, sans llamas. All photos taken about two weeks ago. More to come.
