Well, I have some photos in the pipe to place here but not today, I guess. Things just seem to upstream when they feel like it. Serendipitous blogging.

The days have cooled down. The water level in the big pond dropped more then a foot yesterday and I didn't know it, The runoff from that pond is what the llamas can reach to drink, and yesterday there was no runoff. Nor today. By the time I realized they were so thirsty, it was nearly dark. I carried a big plastic container--I think it's a planter; looks like a garbage can cut in half--out to their pasture and filled it with creek water. They drank and drank. I have to get them a stock tank before winter, anyway, and try to figure out how to run an electric tank warmer out there.

Meanwhile, my day's task is to walk upstream to the diversion culvert and see whether I can't build up the little dam there to increase the flow of creek water into the pond. Gotta get that level back up.

The landlord came by yesterday for more of his things from the garage, and this morning before he left (he lives 7 hours from here and had camped on the hill last night) he was cursing the blue heron who's been hanging around in the willows. His policy is to frighten them away. "I know they're pretty to look at," he said, "but they'll sure put a dent in your trout population." Hm. I'll opt for the bird, I think.

Sitting on the back step with a cup of hot coffee, early sun just coming over the top of the hill, and up over the pond that heron lifts into the air, with its great wings, so slowly, and your spirit moves forward and just glides into the flow.
