No one believed it could happen here...

But thanks to the efforts and fronting of the "Cedarville Film Club," Fahrenheit 9/11 made it to Modoc County for the weekend of September 11. Entering the theater meant penetrating a line of Bush-Cheney pickets on the sidewalk in front, and I couldn't help feeling glad I'd parked far away, because at least one of those guys was an off-duty highway patrolman. A valiant crowd of about 20 braved the gauntlet to view the film. We did right by the cause and sat through the whole thing, and then stopped for take-out tamales at a nearby minimart before wending our way back out here in the dark. My friend's pickup is in the shop, so I provided transportation. I hate driving these roads late at night, what with the endless attempts of suicidal wildlife to fling their bodies under one's tires.

But we made it back, and my friend piloted the ATV back up to his cabin, and I'm left here today to correct a set of proofs for a local client. Then I'll try to track down a new pressure gauge for the well's jet-pump. Ran out of water at 5pm yesterday--a Friday, naturally--so we're back to flushing the toilet with creek water. And the creek itself is down to a trickle, and the dam needs rebuilding, and the ponds are drying up, and the trout are dying, and--oh, you don't want to know. Rain is predicted for tomorrow.

Let it come down.
