The essay I wanted to finish won't be ready to post today and even the weekend ahead is full of obligations and prep work around the place so instead I list here what is good today (so far--it's noon): --water in the well --my love's laundry spinning in the machine --my brother Brian's stammered "good morning" --sunshine warm in the open kitchen doorway when night chill still clings in other spaces --sitting on the kitchen stoop in the warm sun, with coffee and toast --seeing the winter's firewood (still uncovered!) so neatly stacked by my brother in that sheltered alcove --giving Sally and Apple my toast corners ![]() --Yoda finally coming in from his nighttime forays and purring to greet me and lapping his token spot of cream and bathing himself and curling to sleep on my unmade bed --my old computers starting up --I have a dial tone --anticipating the evening's movie with Norris --gunmetal-blue dragonflies darting toward me and away and back again at the still-full pond --getting a warm morning email from Zanna in Montana that evokes memories of the Rocky Mountains --my brother Brian remembering to turn down his Elton John recording while I was writing before I had to say something... --Sally and Apple wading together in the still-running creek --irrigating the purported herb garden --noticing how brightly the reddened blueberry leaves glow with the sun behind them. --checking my bank accounts and finding that I hadn't bounced any checks (hurray!) --checking the salon.com rankings and finding myself included in the list; eleven readers before lunchtime on a Friday; what could be better? Time to go out into the world and interact. I thank the Universe for all these gifts. I hope the car starts... 12:09:57 PM |
