After the threatening skies of yesterday afternoon, we have another brilliant morning. I slacked off yesterday (which is somewhat inaccurate, "slack" seeming to indicate relaxation as opposed to extraordinary anxiety). This is the day I get over myself and pay for my self indulgence with a doubled workload. It may be self-assigned, but it's still work. Books Received: The Real West Marginal Way: A Poet's Autobiography, by Richard Hugo (1986). Can't wait to dig in. I'm at the point in Franzen's Corrections where the pleasure of reading his astoundingly perceptive and accomplished prose ceases to compensate for the irritation generated by the plot's criminal absurdity. I'm wondering whether I should give up on it. Did anyone out there finish it? Advice? 9:39:55 AM |
