The pond is overflowing, holes developing in the sides. If the rain continues as it has the past 3 days I think it may be a goner. Called up N. Around 6 he marched over the ridge with a shovel on his shoulder. We inspected everything. The creek dam where the diversion pipe is (shown here last fall when it was slow and low) is like a roaring rapids right now. The pipe is deep under fast-moving water. A couple of months ago I closed the opening as far as it would go. It couldn't be open more than an inch or two. I guess it's the force of the running water that pushes it through the small opening more rapidly than it does in summer. Anyway, N. pushed sod into the leaky places where it was possible and slowed things up some.
Broken cloud cover now, just after sunset. Rain cells circling out and back. Not as flat-out serious a downpour as it has been until today. I'll take photos tomorrow when I have more light and post them then.
