Yellow is one of my colors

With a little orange for ballast it's even better. Saffron. More like dandelion pollen than petals. More like monk robes than schoolbuses. It's the first real color to burst out in spring. Balsamroot. Now mule ears. Goldfields. Buttercups. Dandelions and salsify. It's the welcome light in the morning. The just-risen Butter Moon. It's butter, for that matter, in spring, when cows have fresh grass. It's the dress Emma (my caregiver) made for me to wear on my first day at school. She dressed me up, took my picture, sang to me "The Yellow Rose of Texas." It's my favorite bedsheets. The paper in the long legal pads I write my poems on. I love yellow. It's one of the best colors I know. And even though it's not my only color--deep purple is my current favorite--yellow is very much one of my colors.
