The students are back on campus.  The place is crawling with them.  And I was just getting used to having it all to myself.

It seems that campus has two periods of dormancy:  one in the winter, when the plants are asleep, and one in the summer when the students are gone.  We're lucky to have one of the best looking campuses here, with gorgeous trees and at least three separate gardens.  During the winter, we're covered by a white crystalline blanket.  Cold and miserable, we muddle through with the dreams of lush green in the future.  Then spring comes, and we feel alive with possibility.

It's the same for students.  The campus winks in the humid summer sun, awaiting the return of the fall breeze.  The campus is restful.  Then, Welcome Week and the first week of classes are upon us - and there's a mass of humanity out there sharing your sidewalks.  You see what possibility really is.

The university is an incubator.  It helps beautiful things grow and flourish.  I'm just glad they let me wander around the greenhouse.
