First Warren Zevon, now Johnny Cash.  It wasn't really a surprise, not after June died earlier, but it's still depressing.  Cash was a post-modern hero. The ultimate outsider dressed in black.  The romantic icon, the patron saint of the unwanted and the lowly.

VH-1 showed the video that he had made for his remake of Nine Inch Nails's "Hurt."  Compared to Cash's soulful rendering, Trent Reznor sounds like a complete whiner.  The video is made up of clips of Cash playing now, and playing in the past.  You look into his eyes, and he seems to say, "Money and fame don't mean squat.  These are the things that do:  your family, your friends...and music."

(If you're wondering, the title comes from the Godfathers' song.)
