I enjoy watching Rachael Ray's "30 Minute Meals" on Food Network. As Sweetie and I both work all day, we don't have time when we get home to cook one of the meals from his "Better Homes and Gardens" cookbook - which I swear was written just slightly after 1960 and assumes that the woman stays home the better part of the day. We really don't like to blow money by going out a lot either. Watching Rachael whip out a healthy meal in 30 minutes is a confidence builder. It doesn't hurt that she's fun and bubbly too. She's actually somebody you could imagine hanging out in the kitchen with, as opposed to that old fussbudget frost bag Martha Stewart. We won't try everything she makes (anything with asparagus or brussel sprouts....eeeewwww!), but we've tried a few things that were good, like the chicken and dumplings.
That being said though, she definitely has some interesting quirks. I was thinking that, like both Star Trek: Next Gen and the Democratic presidential candidate debates, her show might make a fun backdrop for a drinking game. So, here are the rules:
Take one drink if:
-she says "extra virgin olive oil" -she says "e v o o" as shorthand for above -she tells you that you should prewash your veggies when you come home from the grocery store -she says "it's already smelling great in here" -she uses the word "beautiful" -she mentions a family member while talking about a dish -she uses the big grill pan -she tells you that something is so "quick and easy" to make -you see a "pop up" tip -she uses chicken stock -she talks about eating low carb food -she's got time left to make a dessert -she says the phrase "let's garbage bowl that"
Take two drinks if:
-she says both "extra virgin olive oil" and "e v o o" in the same sentence -she tells you not to prewash your strawberries -she serves any portion of the meal on Fiestaware -she's got time left to make a fountain drink -she uses sorbet in the dessert or fountain drink -she uses the phrase "potato smasher"
Take three drinks if: -she mentions her past as a soda jerk girl at HoJo's -she mentions her past gourmet food store work -she has a member of her family on the show -she has a "two for one" dinner tonight/lunch tomorrow combo show
She may be a little kooky, but she still beats Emeril... (Bam!)
