Sweetie and I were out getting some Halloween candy, and stopped for dinner at a fast food place that shall remain nameless.  There was a woman standing behind me in line that I was getting odd vibes from.  You know how it is, certain people just strike you as being weird or rude or whatever.  She seemed to be the stuck up variety.  She was hanging behind me fairly close, breathing down my neck.  I thought to myself that I was jumping to conclusions, that she probably was a nice person who was having a bad day.  Nope.  I was right.  She was rude.

As the poor harried counter person took our order, she said snarkily to no one in particular, "This is the slowest fast food I've ever had."  (She was there by herself....go figure....).  Later, the counter person was out cleaning the tables, and Sweetie had said something to her about the big rush that had come in here.  The nasty lady was carping about how she always walked in to a place with a big line and then by the time she got her food, there would be no line.  Then, she left her tray on the table.  I said after her, "Excuse me, but you forgot to bus your tray."  I don't think she heard me.

You have every right to complain if you're getting poor service.  But there is something to be said about your attitude as a customer - and outside considerations.  This woman was not getting poor service.  The counter people were doing the best they could with what little they had.  You know the corporate drill these days - floor staff and supplies get cut, administration gets a huge raise.  Then the staff get phrases like "you can choose to have a good day" or "make their day" or "Smile" or other ingratiating tripe shoved down their throats.  The fact is that there are some things that you can't work around or can't predict when they'll happen.  I'm not saying you have to be freakin' Mary Sunshine all the time, just be patient.  Think before you open your mouth - imagine you're behind the counter at a fast food joint at dinner rush, and see how you feel.
