Ever wanted a virtual tour of Lansing? Or at least some interesting sights in town? Head on over to Lansing Sucks, where Esquire has taken some lovely pictures of downtown. A picture of my personal favorite building in town, the former Knapp's Department store, is prominently featured. (Also among my top favorite buildings you'll find are the former Michigan National Tower, the Capitol, and the former Comerica building.) There are in fact a lot of nice buildings in town, as you'll see from the pictures. The problem is that a lot of them are empty, and the ones that are still there are struggling to remain.
The governor has signed new legislation which makes all state offices use pre-existing urban space instead of moving out into the suburbs on fresh land. This should help out Lansing in particular (for more reasons than one - not only is Lansing the capitol city and has the most government offices, there's also a complex down in Holt which we'll stop losing revenue to). As much as I hate to see nice buildings converted into office space, it's better than not having those nice buildings at all.
