Our esteemed state House Speaker Rick Johnson is holding up next year's state budget. Why? Because he claims that a tax rollback put into the works when times were better must still go through. The governor and the Senate Majority Leader have come to a compromise where the rate rollback won't take effect for six months, saving the state a hefty chunk of change it can use to shore up K-12 education. Johnson, however, claims that if the rollback doesn't occur, it's tantamount to a tax hike, because people were (and I quote) "planning to pay less next year." Huh? I'm sorry, but how many people do you know who plan their fiscal year in advance who aren't accountants? I thought so. Not to mention, most people don't mind paying the same as they did last year, especially when public school education is at stake.

I just spent half an hour typing up a blog entry and ended up hosing myself. When will I learn to use Notepad to type these things in?
