WHERE THE JOBS ARE:
Another study, this one by the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, finds that nearly a quarter of jobs created in the county in between 1999 and 2002 were in restaurants, with an average salary of $18,000 a year. The chamber of commerce recently reported that a family of four would need to earn at least $50,000 a year in order to afford such basic necessities such as food, rent, clothing and child care.
