So now we have Joe Lieberman criticizing Howard Dean: Moderate Joe Lieberman, a senator from Connecticut, said Monday that Dean's opposition to the war and his call to repeal President Bush's tax cuts are "a ticket to nowhere."

Why is Joe Lieberman even a Democrat? He sees himself as a moral crusader out to protect us from the evils of the entertainment industry (as did Al Gore back in the 80's I realize but he was facing the wrath of Tipper). He has a big crush on George Bush; perish the thought that he might offend the man by criticing him in any meaningful way...Better to come down on Dean I guess...

Ol' Joe was totally gung-ho for the war: I understand the guy's Orthodox and he obviously has Israel's best interests in mind and that's all good and well but perhaps it's clouding his judgement a little as often religious orthodoxy can. Do we really need a fundamentalist (who HAS allied hiself with the Christian right at times) in the White House? We've had one in there now for 2 1/2 years and look what it's gotten us!

Our sense of divine right and moral certainty has caused us to become the most hated bully on the block. We can do whatever we want because it's our right and privilege as the Lord's moral watchdogs. Nobody ever DIDN'T think that their own politics or religion was right (or their team was the best or ethnic group was the best or whatever!) but the US just seems to have the muscle to force our benevolence and right-ness on everyone else. Perhaps we're the Romans of today...Anyway I digress! People can interpret things in different ways (look how they've abused the Bible) but it's pretty clear that the framers of the constitution who put this nation together were undeniably adamant about the separation of church (ANY church) and state. Whether it's Ashcroft or Lieberman, religious fundamentalists in positions of political power are a scary proposition.
