IT'S A FREE REPUBLIC...AS LONG AS YOU ARE ON THE RIGHT!
The people on the Free Republic site don't seem to like opinions (or facts) that don't support their liberal-bashing version of world events. They take as gospel the (since corrected) Washington Times story that Governor Blanco didn't declare a State of Emergency until it was too late...Well that's a lie but don't try to tell THEM that...I figured I'd send a couple of links...I guess I shouldn't have said that the right-wingers there would find some way of rationalizing all this and I was interested to see how they do it...Well...that was not to be because within five minutes my post was removed (I was #434) and I was blocked from posting on their site! Perhaps I should have been a little less confrontational I guess (these folks love to call any given Democrat a moron but don't like their world view to be questioned apparently).
So, maybe it wasn't JUST because I sent links that might show some culpability in New Orleans that wasn't related to the Governor or the Mayor...Here's a little of the letter Governor Blanco sent to the President (on August 27th) asking him to declare a state of emergency to facilitate federal help:
Pursuant to 44 CFR § 206.35, I have determined that this incident is of such severity and magnitude that effective response is beyond the capabilities of the State and affected local governments, and that supplementary Federal assistance is necessary to save lives, protect property, public health, and safety, or to lessen or avert the threat of a disaster. I am specifically requesting emergency protective measures, direct Federal Assistance, Individual and Household Program (IHP) assistance, Special Needs Program assistance, and debris removal.
Also there's this from the president of Jefferson Parish in New Orleans, Aaron Broussard (talking on Meet The Press):
Three quick examples. We had Wal-Mart deliver three trucks of water. FEMA turned them back. They said we didn’t need them. This was a week ago. FEMA, we had 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel on a Coast Guard vessel docked in my parish. When we got there with our trucks, FEMA says don’t give you the fuel. Yesterday — yesterday — FEMA comes in and cuts all of our emergency communication lines. They cut them without notice. Our sheriff, Harry Lee, goes back in, he reconnects the line. He posts armed guards and said no one is getting near these lines…
Would such evidence as this ever change a freeper's mind? I guess we'll never know huh...? Maybe they'll start searching out some news that doesn't come from Newsmax or Fox...Of course, as soon as people like Tim Russert get off their asses and act like real journalists, they're accused of liberal bias! It seems the only way NOT to be liberally biased is not to ever criticize anything the right-wing extremists who ruin our country (and the world) are doing.

JOHN BOLTON-FUNNY LOOKING BUT SERIOUS JERK
It didn't take John Bolton long to show what an arrogant bully he is. Here he goes trying to destroy the UN...and I really thought he was gonna be a team player!
Let's not forget this is the same Bolton who has been a long time member and a former DIRECTOR of the neo-conservative Project For The New American Century. While he didn't happen to sign the Rebuilding America's Defenses document (signed by the likes of Libby, Wolfowitz, Cambone, and Kristol) which basically hoped for a new Pearl Harbor (which they "luckily" got with 9/11) and expressed the desire to develop biological weapons to target certain ethnicities (it's apparently cute when WE use these weapons...just no one else is allowed to), he hasn't exactly distanced himself from those who have put him into his UN post (these same PNAC extremists).

AMERICAN HERO CINDY SHEEHAN RETURNS TO CRAWFORD!
Well...she may not have had "other priorities" during Vietnam or gotten daddy's friends to help her avoid the draft so she could drink and snort coke...and she may not even then send other peoples' kids off to die for wealth and power, but she just might end up saving the lives of other moms' kids down the road if she helps turn the tide against our imperialist leaders and their wars of choice. She's finally woken up the mainstream (ie Conservative) media and gotten the topic of the war back in the public discourse where it belongs. I can't believe the depths to which the right wing scumbags will sink to bash her, but I have to believe that if more people realized what we were really doing in Iraq, maybe they wouldn't approve.
For example, taking nationalized industries and privatizing all of them to the detriment of the people but the benefit of non-Iraqi corporations (without asking the people what they want of course)...it's just hard to see how the mind can rationalize to justify such things. Bremer got his big business buddies what they wanted and now they can rape and pillage the Iraqi economy as well as profit off OUR tax dollars with their Bechtels and Halliburtons (which we all know our leaders have more than a few ties to). Cheney still gets a million bucks a year from Halliburton after all...
If you think it's GOOD that the rich in this country profit this way and steal other nations' resources in the name of "freedom" then at least you shouldn't wonder why people hate us...and you shouldn't pretend we're in Iraq to liberate anyone. At least be honest about it.
