Kudos, cheers, and chest-sticking-out-in-pride congratulations to my friend Meg Fowler for being voted First Place in the Best New Blog category of the Canadian Blog Awards for 2006. WAY TO GO, MEGGY!
Having read her blog for a couple of years now, I feel that I know Meg a bit and thus take some ownership, and a little vicarious thrilledness, that she's been named Best New...hmm...wait a sec...
Seriously, Meggy had a few false starts in the blog biz before she settled down at her new home. She's eponymic and everything now, and always one of my favorites. And always will be, now matter how new she gets.
It occured to me, though, that it's been a while since I plugged my fellow bloggers, the ones I read daily (or whenever they post; thank you RSS feeds). My bad; you deserve more. I lurk and enjoy and learn and...well, here. Listen up.
As with Meg, I think of Liz at Lizardek's Obiter Dictum as a little sister (which is the way I think of my little sister; I'm odd that way) who lives too far away. She's an expatriated Midwesterner, now living in Sweden with her husband and two amazingly photogenic kids. She lets me peek at her life in Vikingville and it always brightens my day. Also, I shamelessly steal cookie recipes from her (I'm making Raindeer Poop ones tomorrow, I swear). Stop by and say hej!
Jim and Clarence, on the other hand, are my Kentucky cousins, sharing their thoughts and wisdom with this Blue State, frozen-chosen child of the '60s. I've been saying it for a few years now, but one of my goals remains a trip to KY, to see if the grass is really blue and spend some time with these guys. One of these days...
Michael Main and Gordon Atkinson are my Texas brethren, and among the first blog friends I made. We broke bread together in San Antonio a couple of years ago, and I'm ready for another meal. Until then, I manage to get fed with their words. A lot of you come here via these guys, so you know already -- the rest of you, check 'em out and say hi for me.
I smile a lot but I'm a hard laugh, and my old college buddy, geetar-pickin' Arizona music legend Tom Tuerff has made me laugh more than once. He doesn't post nearly enough, but do yourself a favor and stop by for some irreverance and occasional bad language. And for God's sake, buy his CD so he'll shut up about it (it's a blast, by the way; great Christmas gift for the satirical bluegrass humor lover in all of us).
Drew is slightly off-center and Deb is striving to move forward while still finding joy abiding in the here and now (whew), and neither of them posts enough either (get with the program, guys!), but they're reads I never miss.
I'm not forgetting you, Osray, either. Don't make me drive those 70-odd miles south to the wilderness and force you to write more.
Finally, my neighbor Janet over at Mukilteo Musings is the place to go for news of Mukilteo and the greater Seattle area, along with great pictures.
I visit lots of sites and read various political and other fancy-schmancy blogs, but these folks are family. Do yourself a favor and stick them on your list. It's worth your while, and they all get first place on the TWATC (twat-see) blog roll.
And please buy Tom's CD. And Gordon's Christmas stories. And something for yourself, of course.
