Maybe a Cheery Song Will Help
New Bush Request for Iraq Funds May Flop
September 4, 2003, 6:56 PM EDT WASHINGTON -- Louder cries to seek foreign help, bigger federal deficits at home and the approach of next year's elections could complicate Congress' work on President Bush's next request for billions for U.S. activities in Iraq.
Well, we wanted to help George out, since we always feel sorry for panhandlers, even though we know they just use the money for booze, drugs, and unnecessary layers of bureaucracy. So, we appropriated Tin Pan Alley for the war effort, and got all our nation's finest tunesmiths on the job. And it turns out that this is the best that Irving Berlin could come up with, being dead and all:
Have Another Cup Of Coffee and Give Me Billions, Dammit
Just around the corner There's a job for me and you. So let's have another $60 billion Since we've got to see the Iraq thing through.
The economy's a bubble Who knows what it's all about? So let's have another $70 billion And have NATO nations help us out.
Let a smile be your dental plan For a rebound's under way. So keep those tax cuts permanent 'Cause we've got a war and the rich shouldn't pay.
To evil doers worldwide Bush says now's the time to die. So let's have another $80 billion And let's have another round of lies.
