Ultimate Wingnut Challenge: We Won't Have Glenn and Hugh to Kick Around Anymore
Alas, Glenn "Instapundit" Reynolds and Hugh "Blog" Hewitt have been voted off Wingnut Island (Glenn receiving an unprecedented 50 votes).
As they walk down the Gangplank of Shame and Failure, let's enjoy some of their greatest hits.
First, here's Hugh, talking to Bill O'Reilly a few months ago (transcript courtesy of News Hounds):
HEWITT: Blogging of real journalists, and people like Power Line and like InstaPundit and like myself, we don't like it when Daily Kos shows up on the take of the Howard Dean campaign. Now Daily Kos says, this is one of the bloggers from the left, says he disclosed it, but not to the satisfaction of anyone who watches him.
O'Reilly: Oh, that is bunk.
HEWITT: I didn't know.
O'Reilly: This is bull. Nobody knew about this.
HEWITT: That's right.
Actually, everybody (except Hugh and Bill, I guess) knew that Kos did media consulting (not favorable blogging for pay) for the Dean campaign. Kos disclosed this fully. But since Armstrong Williams-gate had just broken, Bill needed a "paylola" scandal on the left to demonstrate that the liberals are way more corrupt that conservatives, and fortunately Hugh had a book to hawk and was ameniable to going on Bill's show and "exposing" Kos. And that, kids, is how "news" gets made. But hey, remember that Bill is looking out for you, and Glenn is all about being trustworthy, so I guess Kos really did do something immoral and corrupt, despite what the facts seem to indicate.
Now, back to Hugh for some more examples of good blogs. (See if you can spot a theme)::
HEWITT: But we do have to be aware that there are people who are credible in the blogosphere. There are people who can be respected, who earn trust and deserve it, whether it's guys like at the RNC and the DNC that were accredited bloggers, like Captain's Quarters, like Instapu - people who belong there because they're good journalists and they're careful with their facts. But there are some bad actors out there. In the book I write about something called Black Blog Ops. These are people who operate websites and blogs for purposes which are to destroy, not to build up. But, for every one of those, there are twenty that are good. There's Roger L Simon, Bill. He's a fine, fine film director on the West Coast, very persuasive in his writing. He's not on the take to anyone. I'm not on the take to anyone. Glenn Reynolds, the [law] professor at University of Tennessee, he's not on the take to anyone.
Yes, Daily Kos, "one of the bloggers from the left," is a scam artist. However, Instanpundit, Powerline, Hugh, Captain's Quarters, Roger L. Simon, and Glenn Reynolds, all bloggers from the right, are honest and trustworthy sources. I wonder that the means?
But despite the fact that he's so gosh-darned honest and fair, we must now say farewell to Hugh -- and also tp Instapundit AND Glenn Reynolds. I guess we'll have to get all our news from Powerline from now on.
Anyway, now, for some of Glenn's greatest hits:
IS GOOGLE LEANING LEFT? This is troubling, if true;
BREATHING DOWN SADDAM'S NECK: This report is encouraging, if true.......
EMBARRASSING, IF TRUE
RALPH PETERS WRITES that we're shafting the Poles. That's terrible, if true.
THIS IS INTERESTING, if true:
And so on.
Yes, if true, then many things are indeed troubling, encouraging, embarrassing, troubling, and such, and it's great that Glenn pointed them out to you and told you what they mean. However, if they aren't true, then just forget the whole thing, okay?
So, buh-bye, Glenn and Hugh. Don't forget to not write.
And now, here's our new Blog Stars team, plus the number of votes they received:
Captain Hindrocket (12) Trusted Lt. Jay Tea Wizbang (15) Lowly Private Charles LGF Guy (20)
We wish them all well in the upcoming elimination round ....
