A Godly Blog Falls Into the Hands of a Scarlet Woman

Hmm, it seems that Miss Anntichrist S. Coulter did something to the General, and is now posting at his site about how girls should be allowed to escape the threat of cervical cancer, even if it means that they thus might be tempted to have the sex.  The General would be so disappointed in Ms. Annti for giving our pure, young maidens the idea that they can escape the wages of sin (which should be disease, shame, and a baby) -- so I guess it's a good thing that Annti locked him the basement or something.

There are None So Stupid

... as those who cannot think outside of the Republican talking points.

Case in point: Mr. Hindrocket.

In general, Miller's story seems to exonerate "Scooter" Libby, Dick Cheney's chief of staff, with whom Miller had a series of conversations about Joe Wilson. In the course of those conversations, Valerie Plame's name was mentioned a couple of times, but there is no suggestion that either Libby or Miller had any idea that she was a "covert" CIA employee, rather than an analyst. (In fact, as far as I know, she wasn't.)

Then let me make it clear to you, sir: Valerie Plame was a covert CIA employee.   She was not an "open" employee.  She was under cover.  She was a Non-official Cover officer (a NOC).  That's why the CIA made efforts to make it appear like Ms. Plame worked for a Boston firm called Brewster Jennings & Associates.  That's why the paragraph of the State/INR document about Wilson's assignment that mentioned Plame was classified at the Secret levelThat's why the CIA filed a crimes report after they saw Novak's column.  That's why DOJ initiated a criminal investigation.  All that happened because she was an a covert CIA employee whose cover had been compromised.  The CIA (and FBI and DOJ) didn't take all those actions just for fun.  They did it because she was a COVERT CIA EMPLOYEE.  Capiche?

Now, I'm not a lawyer and I don't know if she met the legal definition of a "covert agent," so I don't know if those guilty of discussing her secret, covert, non-overt employment with members of the media (and with Judy Miller, a member of her own personal branch of government) violated the Intelligence Identities Protection Act of 1982.  But I do know that those officials disclosed classified information to unauthorized people, and therefore should (at a minimum) have their security clearances suspended (which would kind of limit their effectiveness, especially if they were, say, a Vice President).  And if they lied about their actions to the investigators, then they could be guilty of other things as well, and so would deserve other punishment .

Reading Miller's account, the impression that this investigation is much ado about nothing is only strengthened.

Yeah, you're officially declaring the whole Plame scandal bogus (well, you would if Instapundit hadn't called dibs on that declaration).  Fine.  But if we someday happen to have a Presidential or Vice Presidential advisor who discloses our nuclear secrets to several friendly reporters in order to discredit a critic of the administration, and one of the reporters happens to print something classified that helps the Islamic terrorists to nuke Minnesota, don't say that you didn't get the kind of government that you deserve.

Headline of the Day

Cheney May Be Entangled in CIA Leak Investigation, People Say

Hey, I said this about two years ago, and I'm a person -- it's about time that the media got around to reporting this.

But anyway, here are the key passages from the Bloomberg story:

Fitzgerald has questioned Cheney's communications adviser Catherine Martin and former spokeswoman Jennifer Millerwise and ex-White House aide Jim Wilkinson about the vice president's knowledge of the anti-Wilson campaign and his dealings on it with Libby, his chief of staff, the people said. The information came from multiple sources, who requested anonymity because of the secrecy and political sensitivity of the investigation.

[...]

Fitzgerald has told lawyers involved in the case that he hopes to conclude soon -- the grand jury's term expires Oct. 28, although it could be extended -- and there is a growing sense among knowledgeable observers that the outcome will involve serious criminal charges. ``Fitzgerald is putting together a big case,'' Washington attorney Robert Bennett, who represents Miller, said on the ABC-TV program ``This Week'' yesterday.

The charges could range from a broad conspiracy case to more narrowly drawn indictments for obstruction of justice or perjury, according to lawyers involved in the case. Charges are considered less likely on the law that initially triggered Fitzgerald's probe, which makes it illegal to deliberately unmask an undercover intelligence agent, because of the difficulty in meeting that statute's exacting standards for prosecution.

[...]

One lawyer intimately involved in the case, who like the others demanded anonymity, said one reason Fitzgerald was willing to send Miller to jail to compel testimony was because he was pursuing evidence the vice president may have been aware of the specifics of the anti-Wilson strategy.

So, if Bush gets impeached for incompetence, Cheney resigns because he's implicated in a conspiracy that ended up outing a CIA agent, and DeLay has stepped down as Speaker of the House House Majority Leader because of an ongoing corruption investigation, then who becomes the President?  (And doesn't the Constitution specify that, per the "Three Strikes and You're Out" clause, that this would mean that the party in charge has to retire from the field?)

Anyway, the rest of the article is about how Scooter and Karl appear to be big, fat liars, and how Scooter looks like a nitwit (a criminal nitwit) for writing a letter to Judy that seems to be telling her to falsely testify that he never discussed Plame's CIA affiliation with Judy.  Also, apparently some aspects of Judy's story contradicts the account of the NYT's managing editor.  So, as it seems unlikely that we'll ever know exactly who's guilty of what, I say throw them all in jail, and let God sort them out in the afterlife.

Then there's this:

In an interview yesterday, Wilson said that once the criminal questions are settled, he and his wife may file a civil lawsuit against Bush, Cheney and others seeking damages for the alleged harm done to Plame's career.

If they do so, the current state of the law makes it likely that the suit will be allowed to proceed -- and Bush and Cheney will face questioning under oath -- while they are in office. The reason for that is a unanimous 1997 U.S. Supreme Court decision ruling that Paula Jones' sexual harassment suit against then-President Bill Clinton could go forward immediately, a decision that was hailed by conservatives at the time.

Yea, as the scriptures say, live by the sword, die by the sword; and what goes around, comes around.  As I recall, there's also something about "Sow the wind, reap the windbag," meaning that Rush Limbaugh will probably mention this article during his program tomorrow -- and his spin on it will be that this whole mess is the Clenis's fault.

UPDATE

One of my confidential sources (okay, it was Scott C.) emailed me with the following correction:

Happy, happy, joy joy news about Biggis Dickis possibly facing charges in The Plame Affair (one of my least favorite "Man From U.N.C.L.E." episodes).  Just one thing...Tom Delay stepped down as House Majority Leader.  Grain Belt Blowhard Dennis Hastert is still Speaker of the House, and thus third in line for the Presidency, if Cheney were to be charged and convicted, and Bush were to lose control of his Garden Weasle while engaged in the Global Struggle Against Extremist Backyard Brush (we're fighting the milkweed over in Texas so we don't have to fight it here).
As I told Scott, I got a little too excited about the possibility of Dick in Chains (which certainly sounds like a video that VBen Shapiro would rent numerous times -- you know, in order to denounce in the strongest terms), and that (along with the severe lack of sleep) must have mutated my knowledge of just what DeLay was forced to stand down from.  Sorry.   But it's good to know that we have Dennis ready to take over control of the government if needs be.  (Although I heard a rumor that if George and Dick are unable to fulfill their duties, the job might actually go to Gena Davis.)
