So the Prez is coming here, too Tennessee isn't supposed to be a 'battleground' state, but it looks like the battle is coming here, anyway, along with the American Legion's upcoming convention out at Opryworld Hotel. I reported earlier that Kerry (an actual veteran) accepted his invitation to speak. Now Bush has decided to appear, as well, two days before his acceptance speech at his own convention in New York. With the current misinformation campaign going against Kerry's Viet Nam service (this article introduces him as "a decorated Vietnam War veteran whose military heroism has come under attack"-- as if those attacks were worthy of attention) and the proximity of the speeches to those that will come during the GOP convention, this may well be an event to watch. And I thought there would be no meaningful opportunites for volunteering in the campaign this close to home. Note to Self: investigate the effects the Secret Service presence is likely to have on traffic patterns before all of these people arrive in the hotels downtown. 9:58:32 AM |
