A picture named sausages.jpg

The Book Club Babes are coming over tonight and we're grilling sausages and veggies. (We'll also be discussing The Kite Runner, which I hated, but I'm pretty sure everyone else will have loved.)

Heavy sigh.

I wanted to make the Red Cabbage with Apples pictured here, but I ran out of time. (This getting up at 5:15 to train does put a crimp in what used to be my free time, because now my body is ready for bed at about 9:00 at night!)

Oh well. I'll try it next time.

Slice a medium-sized head of red cabbage into thin strips, rinse under running water, then steam for 5 minutes. Add 2 tart green apples (cored and thinly sliced) and steam another 2 to 3 minutes.

Remove and run under cold water. Drain.

In a large pot, melt 2 T. butter with 2 T. olive oil. Saute 2 medium-sized onions (halved and thinly sliced) with 1 T. brown sugar, 1/2 t. caraway seeds, 1/2 t. ground coriander and 1/8 t. grated nutmeg until onions are soft (about 10 minutes).

Add 1/4 c. dry red wine and 2 T. cider vinegar and simmer a minute or so over medium-high heat.

Add the cabage and apple mixutre and toss, cooking another 2 minutes.

Training update:
