In Step with Thoreau
"...the walking of which I speak has nothing in it akin to taking exercise, as it is called, as the sick take medicine at stated hours--as the swinging of dumbells or chairs; but is itself the enterprise and adventure of the day."
That's the problem I had with training for the marathon, or with trying to make myself get up and go to the gym. It feels like taking medicine.
So--again--I'm trying to find a way to make it an adventure.
I did it this weekend by taking my dog for a long walk in Forest Park and by walking to the far-away coffee shop, instead of the one just a few blocks away. But that was easy because the weather was perfect.
I guess I'm going to have to find a way to make nasty weather a part of the adventure.
