Jan's Nobel Project
Reading the Laureates and Other Works of Distinction

What's Jan's Nobel Project?

Check out:

What's the Project and Why Do It?

Originally, the Project was to read a book by each of the Nobel Laureats in Literature (see below), but after a while I got sidetracked, and now it's more of a daily "caption" -- often a note about what I'm reading, but increasingly, it's become more about other pursuits...including my efforts to learn Italian and to train for the San Francisco Marathon this coming October.

Stay tuned.

The Project: Read one book by each of the Nobel Laureates in Literature.

The rules:

* Start from the beginning (the first prize was awarded in 1901), then go wherever the spirit leads.

* If the author's work is not availalbe in English, or from the Public Library, skip it. (So many books, so little time.)

* If several of the Laureate's books are available, pick the one with the best cover. (It works!)

* Take as long as is necessary to do justice to each book, but don't dawdle.

* Keep at it.

Why do it?

Because I feel like I ought to. These are Nobel Laureates, after all, and I feel like I should know what they've written.

And also becaue I want to have something significant to write about in a public setting. Not that I intend to review the Nobel Laureates! I just want in on the conversation.
