it is very important to brush your teeth
This is my tooth brush. I use it several times a day. One thing that my parents (mostly my mom) ingrained in me is that it is very important to brush your teeth.
One time I remember we were out of tooth paste and I asked my mom, "what should I do?"
"There should still be some tooth paste residue on the brush," she said. And so I brushed my teeth with tooth paste residue.
Then one time we went on a trip somewhere and I didn't have my tooth brush. "What should I do?" I asked my mom.
"Brush your teeth with your finger," she said. And so I brushed my teeth with my finger.
Flash forward: years and years later I had a girlfriend with teeth that didn't look so great. I didn't mention it at first since I figured it would hurt her feelings. Afterall, maybe her mom didn't take her to the dentist when she was a kid, who knows.
But then I started to notice that after a night of drinking, my girlfriend would just plop into bed without brushing her teeth. (Even if I'm stinking drunk, I will always stumble to the bathroom and brush my teeth. My mom would be partially proud). Then in the morning we would get up and I would notice that my girlfriend would leave the apartment without brushing her teeth.
Pretty soon, I found myself always looking at my girlfriend's teeth. There was a greenish hue that I never noticed before, and black spots. And if I was sober, I realized that her breath was terrible.
Anyway, one day I got a good paying job and I dumped my girlfriend who didn't brush her teeth.
