A picture named dadwakes.gif

the awakening of the father

When I was a little kid I got the chance a few times to see my dad's waking process.  Like everything he does it was a deliberate and logical procedure.

When he first woke, he wouldn't make any sudden movements.  He would just lie there with his eyes open and orient himself to his waking state.

Then he would lift his arms from under the covers and stretch them into the air.  This might be followed by a mild rubbing of his face with his hands.

His next step was to gradually sit up in bed, facing directly forward.  Here again he would pause and gather his wits about him.  For several moments he would just sit up looking straight ahead.

Then my dad would very methodically pivot ninety degrees on his butt and place both feet firmly on the floor.  From this position he would sit for a while more, yawning once or twice and rubbing his face.

At last my dad would rise to his feet, standing to his full seventy-four inches of height.

Then he would go to the bathroom and take a very long leak.
