rachel continued smoking in her underwear

It's been a weird and interesting 24 hours or so.

*Rachel and I went to the dog track last night and sucked down beers and and vodka tonics.  Bob Bandit advised me to bet a 7-4-2 trifecta.  But at the last minute I thought it was kind of lame to bet some one else's numbers, so I just randomly picked three dogs based on how cool their names were.

Of course, 7-4-2 were the winners in exactly that order and I missed a nice little jackpot.

Derby Lane is this really strange and amazing place.  The track and stands are sprawling and impressive, but the people there are just these hapless bums in t-shirts with disheveled hair.  But for now its a good place for me to escape from the club scene, which I'm quite certain, was going to turn my brain to pure jello pudding.

*After the track we went downtown and ran into the Vitales, DJ Mega, DJ Sam, El the South African dude, Selina the grad student, and others.  Closing down the bar wasn't enough for us on a Tuesday night so we all came back to my place and chatted away like maniacs until five in the morning.

(Me and DJ Sam talked earnestly about doing some sort of movie project, which of course will never happen).

When the party sputtered out John and Alisha Vitale ended up sleeping on an improvised bed I made from my couch and love seat shoved together, while Selena tha grad student collapsed in my little girl's room.

A couple hours later I woke up butt naked on the improvised bed I'd made for the Vitale's and felt very concerned and alarmed that something weird might have happened.  I called John later in the day to kind of feel the situation out.  He talked like everything was fine and normal, but finally I had to come right and ask him:

"I didn't get into bed naked with you and Alisha did I?"

To my great relief, John told me I did not (they had departed earlier that morning).

Selina the grad student emerged from my daughter's bedroom at about 8:45 in a morning-after stupor.  Upon discovering the later morning hour, Selena noted, with no great concern or emotion that she had a 9am appointment or some sort.

Hopefully the appointment wasn't too important.

*Oh yeah:  me an Rachel encountered my neighbors for the first time since I had the screaming panic attack on their front porch at three in the morning.  (We've managed to avoid any contact for about three weeks now).

But Rachel wanted to go out on the porch and have a smoke in her underwear this morning and there were the neighbors doing some sort of yard thing right in front of us.  At first it seemed that we would just continue the awkward avoidance, but then their kitty ran over in our yard, bringing Kathy (the lady neighbor) so close to us that we were forced to exchange a difficult hello.

(Rachel said nothing and continued smoking in her underwear).
