dressing for success
I spent most of the day in criminal court. Nothing really came out of it except another court date.
I dressed up as nice as I could with the clothes I've got. I wore a white buttondown longsleeve from Target, a navy blue coat from the GAP and a red tie (from whoknowswhere).
My shirt's overdue for a washing, or drycleaning or whatever. Its got this light blue stain on the front from the first time I wore it to court a couple months back.
On that morning I tried a real quick, last-minute ironing, but when I tilted the iron over my shirt, it spit this rusty water onto the fabric. I freaked out pretty bad for a moment yelling and cursing, etc. Rachel came to the rescue and said that some peroxide, or some such chemical, would get it out and everything would be okay. Rachel rubbed the peroxide on the rust stain, and lo and behold, it actually began to disappear.
When the stain was pretty much gone, Rachel went back to the bathroom to do her make-up while I picked up the iron to finish off my shirt.
But disaster struck again when the just "destained" area turned blue after a few strokes of the iron. I started to yell and freak out again.
"Oh baybe-cakes," Rachel said. "You can't iron the peroxide. It'll turn blue."
Anyway, that was a couple of months ago. Since that time I've learned that a white dress shirt with a faint blue stain on it isn't that big of a deal in criminal court. Most people show up there still looking like scum-bags and criminals. They wear dirty jeans, sweat suits, chain wallets, ripped t-shirts, etc. I guess they figure if they're looking at a mandatory 10 years, what's the point of wearing a dress shirt from Target?
Rachel helped me iron the same Target shirt last night. I guess, she only got to do the "first stage" of the ironing process, because when she was done it was still pretty wrinkly. Plus, there was purple sangria stain on the sleeve (from her sangria that she was drinking while ironing).
To top it all off, when I gave her a hug in the morning, there was this strange blue lint that appeared all over my shoulders. But I really didn't care that much this time. It was still better than a dirty sweat suit.
