kid in a candy store
If you did a cat scan of Rachel's brain in this particular setting (surrounded by hundreds of bottles of Vodka) I'm sure it would be glowing with bright oranges and yellows of neural excitement and stimulation (like you see on those science shows).
Rachel pretty much drinks nothing but Vodka and tonics, which can be kind of tricky sometimes, especially when there's no liquor store open. In desperate situations she can drink one of those Smirnoff Ice things. Once I tried to get drunk with her on Smirnoff Ice's, but after 3 or four of them I just had a stomach ache and no buzz whatsoever. So I try my best to have some Vodka around.
Surprisingly enough, its usually not the Vodka that runs out first, but the mixers. When out of tonic water or OJ, we've tried creative solutions like grape juice, or Sprite, or peach-cran-apple-raspberry. Usually its not so good.
When we first started dating I always made sure to have a brand new bottle of Absolut, fresh cut limes, plenty of ice, plus the appropriate mixers waiting for Rachel whenever she came over. Afer a while this got kind of expensive, so I started experimenting with different brands of cheaper Vodka. I bumped down several notches on the brands until one day I bought this very odd sounding German stuff that came in a plastic bottle. I think it might have been some sort of anti-freeze. Unfortunately, a friend of mine works at the local ABC, so he witnessed my shameless slide towards economy spirits. We quit doing the lime thing months ago. I mean who has time to slice little fruits?
Another challenge to drinking Vodka tonics exclusively, is that you have to bring all your bottles and mixers and ice and supplies to any social gathering you go to. If you don't, you're likely to be stuck with beer. Then Rachel has this personal rule that its tacky to leave a party carrying off the booze you brought in. So there have been several times when we've left a dull party and I'm thinking, bye, bye my barely sipped, $45 dollars worth of alcohol and related products.
