didn't want to be spoiled

I remember I went through this pretty delusional state in my late 20s, where I was certain I was about to become rich and famous at any time  (through my guerilla art pranks).  In fact, I was so serious about getting rich and famous as an artist, that I became very hesistant about buying lottery tickets.

My thinking was, that if I became a multi-millionaire with a lucky lottery ticket, then no one would respect me as a self-made success.  They would think that I had just bought my way into prominence, insteading of earning it as a lean and hungry artist.

Luckily, I didn't win the lottery.

Unluckily, my art left me poor and obscure.

legend in my own mind

A picture named ppcontroversy-061.jpgHere's that "legend of" sign, by I-275, just north of West Shore Mall in Tampa.  I particularly like the spot because its right in the daily traffic jam zone, where commuters crawl by bumper to bumper.  (Of couse, their foul, collective moods might make them hate anything and everything in their field of view, including sophmoric, subjectless blogs.

It's a small miracle that I have this picture, since I took my digital camera and hurled it against a wall at the Vitale Brothers warehouse the night before.  (Why? Alcohol+my brain).  I didn't even want to look for my camera after I chucked it because I was certain that it would just be this depressing chunk of smashed electronics and lenses.

But Rachel found it pretty much intact, except for the batteries, and to my complete surprise, it turned on and performed it funtions normally.  (Its either a damn well constructed camera, or I have a sissy right arm).

It was actually pouring down rain when I took this photo, and I stepped in a two foot deep puddle getting myself into position.  But its all just a labour of love when you're taking pictures that gratify your sociopathic megalomania.

a brave coward

A picture named coward.jpgThis sign provided a pretty good laugh as I was driving down Gulf Blvd yesterday in Treasure Island.

The irony is that this lady has got to be pretty brave to run for public office with a last name like that.

I would have done the Jeb Bush thing and pushed my first name.  Either that, or just changed my name.

Best of luck, Carol.

(I put the sign up in my yard for a few minutes, thinking it was funny.  But seeing you can only read the "Coward" part at a distance, I quickly took it down.)
