the spirit of the tree
I saw this face on this oak tree while driving through the Old Northeast today. The image was so distinct and life-like that I immediately pulled over to take a picture.
Of course my camera decided to give me a bunch of technical problems at first, and if I didn't act fast, the light would change and the picture would be gone forever (or until the same time tomorrow).
So anyway, I was out there cursing at my camera in these people's front yard. Finally, I decided I should knock on the front door, not only to explain what the hell i was doing, but also so the owner could see this amazing wonder on his property.
It was actually a middle aged lady that answered the door.
I said, "come take a look at this face on your tree!"
"What?" she said.
Then that bit of dialogue was repeated about a dozen times until at last the lady understood me and took a look.
"Oh yes. It looks kind of like a face," she said, without showing any emotion or excitement at all. Then she went inside and closed the door.
Finally, I got my camera to work and I took my picture.
Before I left, I asked the spirit of the tree what kind of leader I should be when I take over the world.
"50% Kennedy and 50% Caligula," the spirit of the tree said. Then the the sun shifted ever so slightly in the clear blue sky and the spirit of the tree was gone.
