x-x-x trifecta box

Unbelievable.  Rachel and I went through this little phase a few months back where we went to the dog track (Derby Lane) pretty regularly.  We haven't been in a while, because I find the place to be pretty scuzzy and depressing, mostly because of the clientele.

But during our little dog track phase, Bob Bandit gave us a tip for betting.  He said, make sure you bet X-X-X trifecta box (actual nubers withheld).  Trust me."

At first I was all excited and set to bet those numbers.  But for some reason, after I started thinking about it, the idea of betting someone else's lucky numbers just didn't seem right.

I want to have my own unique and individual luck, I thought, and instead I opted for some other random digits that popped into my head.

Well, of course, my numbers didn't do shit, while Bob Bandit's numbers hit for a big (several hundred dollar) payout.  We went to the track a few more times after that, but wit no luck and scuzzy people everywhere, I soon found recreation elsewhere.

Anyway, last night, several months later, I'm hanging out with Rachel and her sister and her dad who are down here on vacation from New Jersey (well actually, Rachel's sister rooms with Rachel, but sometimes its hard to structure sentences so everything is accurate but still flowing for the sake of the story.).

But anyway, Rachel's dad and sister say they are going to the dog track after dinner.  I said I didn't want to go because the dog track is kind of depressing and scuzzy.  But I say, hold on a minute, my friend Bob Bandit has these lucky number that he swears by, so I call him up and get them again in the exact order and all that.

Rachel's sister (Nora) puts them into her cell phone since I made such a big deal out of it at the dinner table.

Anyway, a couple hours later, me and Rachel are in bed. (We tried to go out to Hyde Park, but I was just too exhausted from my Saturday tree job).  So we're lying in bed, with Rachel smoking weed with her one hitter when the phone rings.

It's Nora on the other line, squealing with joy--the happiest Rachel has heard her in years.  She bet Bob Bandit's numbers on her first bet and won $482.

It was pretty unbelievable, since the whole lucky numbers thing was just a topic of conversation for visiting relatives as far as I was concerned.

Anyway, to make a long story short, we were heading across the bay this morning and Rachel starts gabbing on the phone with her dad again.  As it turns out, Nora hit for another $500 last night, again using Bob's lucky numbers.

Rachel's dad said that she's supposed give us half of that money.

But Nora didn't mention anything about the second payout before we left and I'm sure I'll never see a dime of that money, but damnit, I'm gonna use those goddamn numbers this week.
