A picture named Mark Michaels burns David Sedaris.jpgtoast of the literary world

See that was easy enough!  Mark Bradley of Orlando, Florida was first to jump on this amazing deal and become part of "Legend" history.

(I'll have you know that my house smells like....like....well a burnt David Sedaris book.

Now these are the kinds of things that I couldn't do when I was growing up with mom and dad.  They would get all bent out of shape when I started toasting books.

But now, I'M FREE!!! WHOOPPEEE!!! I can stay up all night and eat a whole bag of potato chips and a six pack of Dr. Pepper!

A picture named Mark Michaels burns david sedaris 2.jpgBut anyway, back to the business at hand:

So far we've raised $14 out of our $2,000 dollar goal.  Let's see, that leaves $1,986 dollars to go.

If I can get another $10 donation by the time I wake up in the morning (approximately 7:30am Eastern Time) I will take the David Sedaris book to work with me and put it through the chipper.

I know you're out there.  I know you want to give.  Please, do your part.

(Oh, and by the way: feel free to jump in and give the whole two thousand at once).

thank-you, Mr. Quis

We've had an exciting breakthrough here today at "The Legend of Mark Michaels,"--namely our first PayPal donation.

It was an auspicious and benevolent endowment of $4.00 from a street artist in the UK that goes by "quis."  Thank-you, Mr. Quis. The funds will go directly into the "Legend" piggy bank, where they will be saved for fantastic future projects (and won't be spent of beer, I swear).

But now, let's really get things rolling.  My goal is to raise $2,000 via the web over the next thirty days.  To do this, I will ask for specific and discrete donations for which I will perform fantastic and amazing stunts, like:

for $10 donation

I will toast this David Sedaris book until it is black and crisped.  Then I will rip out page number 68 and send it to an address of the donator's choice.  The event will be fully documented, and the patron will be credited on "the legend" if he or she so desires.

So, come on.  Someone out there's got to make it happen.  Ten bucks.

Do it! Do it! Do it!

be careful what you wish for.....

After weeks of eagerly awaiting some sort of media coverage of my various billboard projects, I finally got a "feature story" in the Orlando Sentinel by Nancy Imperiale.

I got up early this morning to check it out on line, but after a few paragraphs my excitement kind of melted away.  Despite mostly getting the facts correct, the tone of the article is pretty negative, condescending, and unflattering.  It seems to say: a bumbling, beer swilling crackpot vandalizes other people's property to get noticed, and still nobody notices.

Maybe she's dead on?  Or maybe my view of the article is distorted?  Check it out for yourself and let me know what you think.
