Now here's something:
Remember that Mark Knopfler song, "I Want My MTV"? The one where Sting sings that long dreamy intro?
(This will mean nothing to people under 25).
But anyway, is there anyone out there, like me, that thought that intro was really cool, but then the song itself was stupid?
I mean, first you hear this spacey, ethereal, Pink Floyd-esque opening. It feels like you're about to lift off on this enchanted interstellar journey. Sting chants his ironic "I want my MTV mantra" in falsetto. Then the drums kick in. At fist just a couple of jolts, like laser beams. And then the beat and the keyboards and effects crescendo and climax, and you expect to be launched into some amazing prog rock song.
But instead, all the spacey, magical, Pink Floyd sounding stuff melts away and you just hear this Redneck twanging away on his guitar, singing about custom kitchen delivery-ee-eees!
Who knows, maybe it was on purpose.
Its not that important really, but I figured someone might share similar feelings about the song.
There also was that Steve Miller song that did the same thing. Has that long trippy, synthesizer into, but then it turns into a redneck rock song.
If this had happenned a lot more, it could have been a real problem with out society. But I think there's just these couple of isolated incidents.
