Ernie K-Doe's famous Mother-In-Law lounge. Ernie passed away a few years ago, but his wife has continued the tradition at his place. Since he was always there, she makes sure he still is. That's Ernie in wax in the corner.

The bar is odd regardless of what evening it is. Having said that, last night was by far the oddest night I think I've ever experienced in New Orleans, which says something since New Orleans is hands down the oddest city in the US. First, there was the drag queen Halloween party in the apartment downstairs. Then there was Ernie's. This weekend was the Independent Book Fair and all of the anarchist bookmakers found their way to Ernie's last night for an after-conference soiree. A hillbilly jug band played in the back room with slam dancers around them. They were all white.

Pictures from Jacques-Imo's Restaurant last night. Jacques-Imo's is the best moderately priced local food joint. There's always at least an hour wait on the weekends. Jacques' place is so popular, he's opening up a place in NYC later this year. Lucky New Yorkers!

Since you spend more time waiting outside than you do inside eating, Jacques has a few funky vehicles to entertain you parked in front. One is the "Love Bus," a painted silver bullet with animal print faux fur rugs and pillows inside. "Do Not Disturb," you hungry yat you!

I have a student in my English 101 class who is part of this ministry. She wrote an essay about her epiphany in the church, the day she decided to dedicate her life to Jesus.
