Okay, Andrew Bayer says it better than anyone. Here are his thoughts on the wacky right's reaction to gay marriage and his state's new ruling. Two cheers for Andrew! 11:21:15 PM | |

If you haven't read Salon's interview with Robert Kennedy, Jr., do. Here are a couple of snippets: 10:36:07 PM | Under Bush we're seeing the complete corporate domination of the various departments of government. The Agriculture Department, which was created to benefit small farmers, is now a wholly owned subsidiary of big agribusiness and the principal instrument of their destruction. The Forest Service is being run by a timber industry lobbyist, Public Lands by a mining industry lobbyist. Virtually all Bush's Cabinet secretaries, department deputies and agency heads come from the very industries that those agencies are supposed to be regulating. The same thing happened in Germany, Italy and Spain during the fascist takeover in the 1920s and '30s -- you had industrialists flooding the ministries and running the ministries, and running them in many ways for their own profit. If you read the American Heritage Dictionary definition of fascism, it says "the domination of a government by corporations of the political right, combined with bellicose nationalism." Well, we're seeing that today. And this: You look at all the Western resource issues, like grazing and lumber and mining and agriculture, and it's all about subsidies -- for some of the richest people in America, these welfare cowboys in the Western states who are getting $35 billion a year in federal subsidies that are destroying our ecosystems out there. And these are the same people who financed this right-wing revolution on Capitol Hill and helped put Bush in the White House, and now they have their indentured servants in Washington all demanding that we have capitalism for the poor and socialism for the rich. Yes, they are fascists. I know it's scary. That's why we have to make sure we get them out of the White House next year. Really. We have to. |

Perhaps Dean is the man. 6:50:07 PM | The Daily Show last night proved how influential he has become. Even Bernard Goldberg, the man who insists there's a "liberal media bias," wants to identify himself as a liberal. (An "old-time liberal like Kennedy and Hubert Humphrey" -- direct quote, I swear!) Now that's a change. Liberal has become cool. On a completely other note, I gave S a day-glow orange "Colored Growing" lizard that will "Expand 600% of Size" in water today. The first direction: "The temperature of the water is under 35 degrees celcius." Yes it is. 35 degrees EXACTLY! The package also warns you not to swallow it and promises "amazing fun and an educational experience." Imagine what you'd learn if you ate that sucker and it grew 600% in your belly. Now that would be educational. Our life down here is rife with lizards. They crawl up through the pipes in our kitchen, find their way into our house through the front door and the windows. Some are teeny tiny, maybe an inch long, and nearly see-through with big black eyes. Others are the small green type you see climbing around the trash cans (and other places) all over town. They are adorable. It takes all your strength not to trap them and take them home to keep as pets. We're going to post before and after pictures of this "Colored Growing" lizard tonight or tomorrow. So much fun in the Crescent City! |
