Greetings from EuropeIn the spirit of distraction, I'm here in Europe with my mother for two weeks. Ta da! 11:28:38 PM | I've been trying to upload photos for the past half hour, but it just ain't workin'. Sorry! The past week we've been in Cork, Ireland for a friend's wedding. Tomorrow we fly to Brussels, then to Paris a few days later, then back to Chicago on the 28th. I will try to post something worth reading between now and then. It's tough; I'm sharing a room with my mom and she goes to bed early, and she needs a dark, quiet room. I don't go to bed early, I like my room a little light, and hey I'm from the city so noise helps me go to sleep. Right now I'm huddled in the hallway while she sleeps, trying to get this thing to do what I want. C'est la vie. Pictures to come: UN checkpoint on parade in Cork on St. Patty's Day; puppets and more puppets; a few shots from LA So far I've not encountered any anti-American stuff, nor even any anti-war stuff. How disappointing! I argued at the wedding with a young philosopher over the merits of the Iraq war (honest -- she's a PhD in ethics and philosophy from New Zealand and she thinks the war is JUSTIFIED because Saddam was so bad! Yikes. And she calls it an "intervention" not an invasion. What the hell is going on?!). Talked to a British photographer who described himself as "not a very political animal." Oh well. I will try to post again from Paris. I don't think I'll have internet in Brussels, but who knows. It comes, it goes. I walk around hotel rooms and hold the computer at different angles, hoping it will help. Sometimes it does. Go figure. Please comment with any news on war protests this weekend. Point me to pictures, stories, etc. I wish I was there to go to Ft. Bragg. Oh well! Ta ta -- |
