Bouphonia

Study cancelled; shocking that it was ever considered

More evidence that we are truly doomed.

I'm happy to see that the study was cancelled, but that it was even considered shows how we've not come very far at all since the days of forced sterilization and immoral testing on the poor.

The EPA was going to give 60 families in a poor, minority community in Florida $970, some childrens' clothes, and a camcorder to see the effects of pesticides and household chemicals on child development, funded in part by the chemical industry (of course). I assume they were also going to give the families lifetime supplies of their chemical concoctions, if the families agreed to spray the kids every now and then.

Greed rules the day. It is the root of all of our country's problems. Unfortunately, radical Christianity, the kind preached by the president and his followers, teaches that greed is what makes you a moral person. To be rich is to be superior, both in class and in thought. They really believe this. If you don't believe me, read George Lakoff's Don't Think of an Elephant! Just don't read it before going to bed. Trust me on that one.

What can we do?

Why even bother? We are so f**king doomed if this is what we've come to. Nuclear energy is "green"?! Has the whole world gone insane or only Nicholas Kristof?!

I've only looked at the NY Times' front page and I'm already disgusted. Don't even get me started on David Brooks. It proves I'm a self-loathing masochist that I ever read his column. Whatever. And meanwhile we're still on the pope, and now there's Charles and Camilla. Who the hell cares?!! It's sickening. Another soldier is dead in Iraq (that's 12 so far this month). Who cares? Another meaningless death in a meaningless war. We are living in Orwell's nightmare, where the news of war flickers in the background occasionally, fills in the dead space when there's nothing else going on. It is there to provide patriotic uplifts and anger sessions and nothing more. What can we do? Will it ever change?!

I am so frustrated.
